Throughout my research career I have studied the architecture and function of RNA and RNA-protein complexes. During my PhD I studied the enzyme that catalyzes the endonucleolytic removal of the 5’ leader sequence of pre-tRNAs. In the Mourelatos lab, I have developed and employed high-throughput sequencing approaches such as RNA-Seq and CLIP-Seq to uncover the mechanism by which piRNAs are made, and to describe the target RNA repertoire of Piwi ribonucleoproteins (piRNPs). Combined with classical biochemistry, this powerful approach can provide deep mechanistic insight on the structure and function of ribonucleoprotein machines.
